The vision is clear: Trapholt will be a cultural beacon and green haven that invites even more people to experience world-class art and design.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"620\" data-end=\"868\">The renovation doesn\u2019t mean we\u2019re disappearing \u2013 quite the opposite. During this period, we\u2019ll be present throughout Kolding with Trapholt To Go, workshops, school projects, and events. The last day the museum is open to the public will be December 30, 2025, and we expect to reopen on March 1, 2027. You can already look forward to a big reopening celebration!<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"354\" data-end=\"428\"><strong data-start=\"354\" data-end=\"428\">Why is the museum closing completely \u2013 can\u2019t it remain partially open?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"430\" data-end=\"690\">The renovation affects large parts of both the interior and exterior of the museum, making it impossible to ensure a safe and high-quality experience for visitors during the work. A complete closure is necessary to carry out the project efficiently and safely.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"692\" data-end=\"734\"><strong data-start=\"692\" data-end=\"734\">What can we look forward to afterward?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"736\" data-end=\"924\">Trapholt will have more space and improved facilities to match the growing number of visitors and our high ambitions for communication and guest experience. Among the new features will be:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"926\" data-end=\"1508\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"926\" data-end=\"1102\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"928\" data-end=\"1102\">A new CRAFT\/learning center with flexible spaces that can be adapted for everything from children\u2019s workshops to large conferences and lectures with up to 500 participants.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1103\" data-end=\"1307\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1105\" data-end=\"1307\">A new sculpture lounge adjacent to the guest reception area \u2013 a gathering place for people and significant artworks, featuring glass panels that open the museum toward the park and surrounding nature.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1308\" data-end=\"1508\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1310\" data-end=\"1508\">An upgraded park area with new pathways, art installations, scenic viewpoints, and relaxation spots that invite all visitors \u2013 regardless of mobility \u2013 to enjoy the interplay between art and nature.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1510\" data-end=\"1558\"><strong data-start=\"1510\" data-end=\"1558\">Is sustainability considered in the project?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1560\" data-end=\"1763\">Yes \u2013 sustainability is a key guiding principle for the entire project. Trapholt aims to be a role model for sustainable museum construction of the future, working with four dimensions of sustainability:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1765\" data-end=\"2308\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1765\" data-end=\"1870\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1767\" data-end=\"1870\"><strong data-start=\"1767\" data-end=\"1777\">Social<\/strong>: The building must be inclusive and accessible to everyone \u2013 both physically and mentally.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1871\" data-end=\"1984\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1873\" data-end=\"1984\"><strong data-start=\"1873\" data-end=\"1885\">Cultural<\/strong>: Respect for Trapholt\u2019s existing architecture and C.Th. S\u00f8rensen\u2019s historic park is fundamental.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1985\" data-end=\"2152\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1987\" data-end=\"2152\"><strong data-start=\"1987\" data-end=\"2004\">Environmental<\/strong>: Requirements include low CO2 emissions, use of eco-labeled materials, and life cycle assessments (LCA) from the architectural competition stage.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2153\" data-end=\"2308\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2155\" data-end=\"2308\"><strong data-start=\"2155\" data-end=\"2167\">Economic<\/strong>: The building is designed with high flexibility, ensuring that the space can be used for various purposes and support sustainable operation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2310\" data-end=\"2345\"><strong data-start=\"2310\" data-end=\"2345\">What is the renovation process?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2347\" data-end=\"2618\">The renovation of Trapholt began with an architectural competition, announced as an EU public tender with prior prequalification. This ensures that the project complies with EU regulations for public construction and guarantees an open, transparent, and fair competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2620\" data-end=\"3090\">Five interdisciplinary teams \u2013 consisting of architects, landscape architects, engineers, and sustainability specialists \u2013 have been selected to participate. Each team is developing a comprehensive and visionary proposal that meets Trapholt\u2019s functional needs and sets a new standard for sustainable and inclusive architecture. The winner was selected at the end of April 2025, and the winning proposal is the basis for the continued development of the project. See more further down this page.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3092\" data-end=\"3152\"><strong data-start=\"3092\" data-end=\"3152\">What will happen to Trapholt\u2019s staff during the closure?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3154\" data-end=\"3640\">Even though the building will be closed, the museum will still be active. We\u2019ll continue to work on future exhibitions and everything else that typically happens behind the scenes. Additionally, through the projects <em data-start=\"3370\" data-end=\"3386\">Trapholt To Go<\/em> and <em data-start=\"3391\" data-end=\"3408\">Trapholt Pop Up<\/em>, we\u2019ll move out into Kolding Municipality with art projects, events, and educational programs. We\u2019ll visit schools, take part in city events, and bring the Trapholt spirit into new spaces \u2013 we look forward to meeting you out there!<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3642\" data-end=\"3683\"><strong data-start=\"3642\" data-end=\"3683\">What will happen to Caf\u00e9 Gustav Lind?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3685\" data-end=\"4042\">Caf\u00e9 Gustav Lind will close along with the rest of the museum. The winning project includes an expanded guest reception area, the creation of a sculpture lounge, a flexible learning and CRAFT center, as well as a new, integrated experience of the museum\u2019s unique park landscape.
