For more than twenty-five years, the ceramic artist Michael Geertsen has modelled, modified and mastered clay in a wide range of different formats and modes of expression.<\/h2>\n

Traditional forms, glazes and techniques of ceramics inspire Michael Geertsen as he combines, juxtaposes and twists historical archetypes of pottery in his distinctively contemporary sculptural constellations. Michael Geertsen\u2019s works navigate a field that combines freeform creativity, classic design and experimental, even controversial artistry.<\/p>\n

The exhibition Michael Geertsen \u2013 ECHO <\/strong>presents twenty-five years of artistic endeavour as manifested through selected one-off ceramics, prototypes, sketches and drawings.<\/p>\n

The exhibition showcases Michael Geertsen\u2019s extensive oeuvre through works that interact with each other, conjuring up an aesthetic echo which connects Michael Geertsen\u2019s personal idiom with our shared history of applied arts. Under four themed headlines \u2013 Animation, History, Deconstruction and Design <\/strong>\u2013 the exhibition unfolds Michael Geertsen\u2019s rich and diverse work, poised in the field where art and design intersect.<\/p>\n

Michael Geertsen (1966) completed his training as a potter in 1988 and graduated from Danmarks Designskole (the Danish Design Academy) in Copenhagen in 1993. He has exhibited his work at galleries and museums in several countries including Denmark and the USA, and in 2012 he created a monumental permanent installation at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. His work is featured in some of the most prominent museum collections in the world, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Arts and Design in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Design Museum Denmark and Trapholt. He has also created household ceramics and design objects in collaboration with companies such as K\u00e4hler, Muuto and Fritz Hansen.<\/p>\n
