Agile Aggressions
From January to November 2025, Trapholt presents the solo exhibition Agile Aggressions by Danish artist Mie Olise Kjærgaard. The exhibition will be a total installation where Kjærgaard explores the boundaries between painting, narrative, and sensory experience through her powerful painterly expression. Here, you are invited to experience her art both within and beyond the confines of the canvas.
Painterly Poetry
Mie Olise Kjærgaard’s works embody a unique sensibility and poetry that defy words yet linger in the mind. Her expressive brushstrokes and carefully selected colors create a powerful visual experience that both fascinates and challenges. It is not only the content but also the manner of creation that leaves a lasting impression.
The Artist
Mie Olise Kjærgaard is renowned for her striking compositions and color-rich works. Her artistic career has propelled her to the forefront of the international art scene. Through her pieces, she disrupts traditional portrayals of women, presenting them in powerful, active roles that challenge the historical perception of the female artist as quiet and subdued.
Trained as both an architect and a visual artist, Kjærgaard merges these disciplines in this total installation, where architectural elements guide visitors through the exhibition.
Painterly Sensations
The exhibition is part of Trapholt’s four-year research project Painterly Sensations, which explores the potential of painting in the 21st century. This initiative aligns with Trapholt’s focus on sensory and affective art experiences, previously explored in exhibitions such as Sense Me and solo shows by Mie Mørkeberg, Erik A. Frandsen, and Malene Landgreen. The museum continues its exploration of how art can enhance our ability to sense, reflect, and understand the world around us.
The exhibition is supported by the Arne V. Schlects Foundation and the Knud Højgaard Foundation.
